[Book Review] Duck! by Kim Dare

Today I bring you one of my Favorites of 2015 and, I’m not kidding you when I say this is just way up there for me *one of her hands runs through her short hair* This book was just a surprise… like a landmine that I wasn’t expecting because I didn’t knew it was there to begin with…

I can’t express much about this book now because if I do, I will just speak about the review before presenting it to you… So before I spill my guts out about it… Here you have it…

Avian Shifters Series (Book #1)

Fairy Tale Retelling, Paranormal Erotic Romance published August 4th, 2010

Another titles in the series: Magpie (Book #2)

Synopsis (From Goodreads)

Raised among humans, Ori Jones only discovered he was an avian shifter six months ago. Unable to complete a full shift until he reaches his avian maturity, he still can’t be sure of his exact species.

But with species comes rank, and rank is everything to the avians. When a partial shift allows the elders to announce that they believe Ori to be a rather ugly little duckling, he drops straight to the bottom rung of their hierarchy.

Life isn’t easy for Ori until he comes to the attention of a high-ranking hawk shifter. Then the only question is, is Ori really a duck—and what will his new master think when the truth eventually comes out?

Please Note: This is the second edition of this book. It has been tweaked and re-edited, but the plot has not changed.

My thoughts on Duck!

What can I say about this book? I wasn’t expecting the feelings and the powerful reaction I got from it, for sure. Definitively I wasn’t expecting to cry my heart out because of it.

It’s the first book I’ve read from Kim Dare, if I’m not mistaken and this is one that forever will be in my favorite list and my re-read list. I highlighted the heck out of it! It was one of those books that simply and utterly touch something so deep inside me that… I just have to have at hand forever and ever now.

The writing was simple, easy, no complicated ornamented words, but with deep meanings in every way you look at it. The plot and the overall inside parts of the book where so well done that I was shocked because of it. There was no indication what so ever that a homoerotic book like this was going to make me feel so… connected to the characters.

At some point after half of the book was done, my eyes just started to prickled, and I didn’t care about it. A few chapters later I was sobbing through the reading but I kept going, I was not going to stop, even when I felt my heart was going to be ripped out of my chest at some point and my crying was very ugly. In the end… I was smiling, had my nose congested for the crying, my eyes where puffy and I was just so utterly happy.

An amazing romance between two shifters. There’s no other way to put it. No other way to say that I just adore this book and I must have next to me, and as soon as I can I will try to get my hands on a paper copy because I just need it by my side to stroked it and sigh over it and re read it.

Do I Recommend This Book?

Are you f*cking kidding me?!

I didn’t know this was a fairy tale retelling but when I got to that part in the book… OMG! This is definitively worth the not knowing at the beginning, why? Because it surprised the heck out of me, that’s why!

I have not read a book about Kim Dare before and I’m just stalling to read Magpie, the next one in this series because if Duck! made my cry like a crazy woman, I’m scared about what the next book could do to me.

That said… YOU BETTER READ THIS!!!! *looks deadly serious* I mean it… Read it or I will find you… I will haunt you down and make you read it with me again if that is what it takes… *looks at the reader* What are you waiting for??

Quotes

The most valuable possession my master owns is his submissive. I will take great care that no harm comes to my master’s submissive whenever he is not there to watch over me himself

All he had to do in order for his master to be pleased with him was to be the kind of avian who loved it when his master let the hawk side of him loose and forgot his human manners. All he had to do was love being owned, and marked and possessed by his master.

Sometimes belonging to another man means accepting that there are times when he knows what is best for you – that he’s doing what’s best for you, even if it doesn’t feel like it.

He found his escape route blocked by a solid wall of hawk.
