My thoughts on Cinders’ Bride

WARNING: This have spoilers. You’ve been warned.

I was in a mood at the time I read this story, and I’m so glad I got this when I did, so many months ago, because it was such an incredible reading experience.

Shannon arrived in town looking for her fiancé, which turned out to be John Hardy. He was a liar and the owner of a saloon that wanted her to work there as one of his girls. She told him that she rather be dead than doing so and he cut her face with a knife, so nobody would want her now, and the only choise would be work for him.

Cinders was minding his own business when he saw what was happening to Shannon. She was a stranger but he couldn’t help the reaction tha came over him, so he helped her. How? He married her. Crazy man married and unknown woman to save her from having to go back to John Hardy’s hands, and paid the debt that consisted on train tickets and a little more.

The love story between Shannon and Cinders was difficult. He was a widow that lost his wife to childbirth not so long ago. She was a scare faced woman, that Hardy made sure nobody came close too because he said to everyone that she was a whore that agree to marry him. Obviously the nice ladies of that time didn’t like her and gave her the cold shoulder, making her feel even worst.

Trials and tribulations are part of this novel for sure. Including two encounters with a Native American man named Long Nose that wanted Shannon as his wife for some unknown reason. We get to know the reason and made me hate John Hardy even more. He is and always will be a scumbag of the worst kind.

Cookie was a great side character that I came to love almost immediately. He is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, at Cinders ranch and is in charge of the food. He has a very strange way about him but the interactions with Shannon are so much fun. She need that too, because Cinders it’s not exactly nice all the time. He has his reasons for being the way he is, so immerse on his own grief for the lost of his family.

I felt this story as one that reach to some depths, not only because it was very well portrait according to the life style of that time, at least in my opinion. Also the fact that the characters were relatable and you could understand where they came from when they made mistakes or took decisions.

One other thing that I really enjoy from this book was that the writing was nicely done. I have fun. I didn’t need to look for strange terminology. I loved the strenght of the characters. I overall think that Cinders’ Bride will get into my top Western Romances list 🙂

Quotes

The War Between the States made the slaves free, but a woman still belonged to her husband.

“Good night, Paul.”
He chuckled. “Not my name, but you keep trying, sweetheart.”

“I have never seen someone’s spirit shrivel so much only to regain it. It hurts to see her shriveled again. She’s a gem and you don’t know it.

“You don’t want to miss out on the love Shannon holds for you. Don’t wait too long, because one of these times you might just break her heart for good.”

He admire her gumption, her grit, and her willingness to pitch in and learn. Brave, she was also brave and kind and sweet. Damn! She was under his skin.

“So, Ichabod, I was thinking.”
“No, Ichabod is not my name.” He pulled her onto his lap and kissed her.
