Synopsis (From Goodreads)

One of the hardest things I have ever had to do was bury my wife.

The second hardest thing would be watching my twelve-year-old daughter fall to her knees as they lowered her mother into the ground to rest.

A heart-wrenching vision that will forever be etched in my mind.

Claire was my best friend—she had been since we were barely old enough to talk. I always knew, one day, I would marry her. I think I may have even told her that a few times while we were growing up.

Never did I think I would lose her so suddenly.

I knew at that moment…

Our life would never be the same again…

My thoughts on Ryan’s Love

WARNING: This have spoilers. You’ve been warned.

The first sentence of this novel is the first sentence of the Goodreads synopsis from a little up into the post and if those words do not catch your attention… too bad, your lost *laughs softly* It was a joke, if you didn’t catch that my lovely readers.

Heads up! I know you already saw the warning that this post have spoilers but I just have to remind you that this post HAVE spoilers. Why the double warning? Because it was impossible for me to write this review like I did, erase the spoilers and make it sound good or even make it more than 3 paragraphs long without them… so… sorry? *shrug*

Ryan as a character is a very relatable one for those that have suffer the lost of a partner, being husband or wife, because you can understand the grief he is living in. Add to it the fact that he has a 12 years old daughter that can understand a lot of things, is a pre-teen and depends on him for almost everything… you get the picture.

Olivia and her father a very close, with is expected and very dear to watch, specially because of the way they interact with one another during daily situations that are portrayed in the book. I love how Ryan always loses his keys and she end up knowing where they are, just like his wife used to do.

Amber on the other hand has a shitty relationship with her mother, whom we meet at the end of the story and I immediately didn’t like the woman. I wouldn’t trust her for the life of me. Amber doesn’t either, she knows her mother does not care about her but about the things she can get from her… mainly money.

The bakery Amber open with Bernie was a huge success. People love to come there and that is how she meet Ryan, because he is no other than the Law Enforcement and also love her baked goodies… and her goodies later one for sure *wink*

The story of this book itself was very natural and driven forward by the life of the characters itself, which made it a light read in a way and also a very good romance in my humble opinion. It was mostly center on the rebuilt of the characters lives, including Olivia which was 15 years old during most of the story.

Olivia had a big fight with Ryan when he was honest with her and told her that he wanted to start dating Amber. Also she made mistakes that cost her a lot, end up in he hospital even and at the end she came out of the other side wiser, which was very well done.

The fact that neither of the character in this story was boring and that Ryan was relentless with her pursuit of Amber, even when his daughter was in the way, made this book something that I will definitively one to read again some time in the future. Specially when I wanted to remember the importance of family and that we can’t make everyone happy but we have to be happy ourselves first to be able to radiate that to others.

Side characters where so darn funny and Jackson’s hot and cold stand-off with Bernie is something that made this book that more entertaining to read. The end is very satisfying and leaves you wanting to know more about the Sawyer cowboy brothers, because you can feel it coming, that it’s going to be a great ride.

Lastly, the writing didn’t gave me any problems at all because I didn’t find any strange or complicated word to add to my vocabulary notebook. That I know because there is no note from me later that said “new vocab”, like some other books I’ve read end up having *smile*

I believe C.A. Harms it’s going to become one of those authors that I will look for when I need a little bid of a good time and good characters that tell their story in a fun, honest and kind of realistic way. I know, of course, it’s fiction but what can I say? I love living thru the books I read.

Quotes

Loving someone with your entire heart didn’t ensure they would always be with you.

“That girl is dangerous.”
“Dangerous?”
“Hell yeah,” he replied. “A girl like that has a man’s mind thinking up all kinds of dirty shit.”

We all tend to do that, wish we had done things differently. We think back and know we should have taken the time to appreciate the small things and let go og those annoyances and grudges that truly didn’t matter.

FYI... I so want to kick Amber’s mom ass for some reason… And I was proven right in the next book of this series 😉

c-a-harms-logoA little about me. Let’s see where to start.

I love HEA stories, as long as they come packing a little heat. I need some excitement, some angst, and moments that make me fan my face are always good too. I am an Illinois girl, born and raised. Simple and true, it honestly doesn’t take much to make me happy. I love the little things; they truly mean the most. I may have a slight addiction to my new Keurig—oh my, that thing is a godsend. And so fast too. I have two children who truly are my very best friends, and their faces never fail to put a smile on my face. I have been married to my husband for sixteen years, and even though at times I want to beat him with a stick, I would never change the years we have had. We have learned and fallen, only to pick each other up, dust off the ache, and help each other make it right.

I am one of those authors that adore my fans. I love to hear from you. After all, it is because of each one of you that I continue to write. I look forward to your feedback.
