Weekly Reading Update (04/20-04/26)

We have been on self-isolation for 6 1/2 weeks now and I’m starting to get anxious. Groceries are delivered from the supermarket and some small items are also bought at the small neighborhood store that’s a block away from the house.

The government sent stimulus money to those in need and that has been the topic of debate these last few days. Some say that if you don’t spend it fast and on a supermarket trip, the government would think that you don’t really need the money and they won’t send you the next one that’s scheduled for May.

My brother and I are willing to go to the supermarket to buy with his stimulus money buy my sister-in-law is afraid that one of us comes back with COVID-19. My parents are over 70 and we are all living together for the time being.

In summary, we don’t know what are we going to do about the stimulus money. πŸ˜•

Now getting into the actual reading update πŸ˜ƒ

I finished Handling Susannah by Amelia Smarts and I have to say that the narrator was fantastic. The story itself was also great but I found some personal issues with something that happened almost at the end of the book.

I will read more from Amelia Smarts because I enjoyed her writing style, the way the story was crafted, and the characters in it. (Link to the full review at the bottom of this post.)

As a matter off fact, I already downloaded Catching Besty, the second book in the Mail-Order Groom series by Amelia Smarts, which starts a couple of years after Susannah married Adam Harrington.

I’m liking Betsy so far but I have my own reservations with the narrator’s voice. I also loved the blurb of Catching Betsy more than the previous one, it hinted to more drama to come.

I finished two books by Frankie Love this week. One of them has a review already up and you can find the link at the bottom of the blog post. The other one I just finished today and had a ton of fun reading it.

Muffin Compares To You is a short story. In 54 pages tells the romance between Jessa and Josh, two opposites that attracted each other and decided to give a chance to the possibility of love at first sight.

Fast romance, crazy Ferrie Wheels rides, and a whole lot of sexy romance. I’m already itching for the next one. Seriously, the series it’s binge-able LOL

On the newsletter front, I got distracted. Turns out that I have some stories in my head that I’m finally putting onto paper (well, a Google Doc). I’m also taking classes online and cleaning the house as always.

If you are interested in talking to me or checking what I’m doing, you can go to my Instagram or Twitter. On the latter, I’m off most of the day but I have the notifications on, so I will be informed if you reach out. 😎

Weekly Reading Update (04/13-04/19)

During this particular week, I kept working on cleaning the house. I complained a lot mentally when my father cooked and the kitchen looked like a tornado passed through it. I usually enjoy ironing clothes but I have been so freaking tired by 9 pm each day that I have a pile of un-ironed clothes to tackle today.

In Audiobooks news. I finished 2 and started 1 more this week. For some reason that makes me feel like I’m being productive, reading-wise, even though my TBR is L-O-N-G and I’m listening to stuff that’s not in it.

I finished His Everything by Frankie Love. It was what I wanted and a little unrealistic at the same time. It was a good combination so I feel like I can’t complain.

As a matter of fact. I was my first book review for the week and at the bottom of this post you can find the link to check it out, if you’re interested.

The Christmas Mail Order Bride by Kit Morgan is a re-read for me. Well, I have read the book before, this was the first time I listened to the audiobook and I found myself talking to my phone. The storyline was just too funny to stop.

Review coming this week but I already started the next book in this series. They are not long audiobooks and they are adorable in their own way. Just what I need during quarantine.

Handling Susannah by Amelia Smarts was on my Audiobook Wish List and grabbed it because it was on Audible Escape. I’m trying to get the most out of my subscription this month because next month I’m probably going to pay for a Scribd subscription, to try it out.

So far, so good. I’m not complainig about the characters or the narrator but I can tell you already I like him more when he narrates Adam’s POV. He does a good job with Susannah but I like his Adam’s voice.

Books, like e-books or paperbacks, I haven’t read this week. I’m still trying hard to find a good schedule for me. Who knew being in quarantine with my family would be more work than when I actually had to go to work.

Still working on the newsletter but honestly, it’s going really slow. So if you are interested in talking or checking what I’m doing, you can come and check my Instagram account @SpicyBooksLady or Twitter @SpicyBooksLady.

Last week I said I’m not as active on Twitter, for some strange reason. I do know the reason. Twitter can be a black hole for me so I try to not get on it as much as possible. That being said, I’m looking for a good way to share my book review blogs on there without me having to manually put it up.

Weekly Reading Update (04/06-04/12)

Another week of cleaning the house, top to bottom and we still have a lot to do next week. It seems like work never ends and every day I wake up knowing I have to clean something.

On the other hand, I feel very accomplished because I did not miss a day of blogging here. This week I posted a review each day and I haven’t stopped, even though I have been posting late in the afternoon and sometimes late at night. But always before midnight so I feel like I did my job well.

Kimberly Faye Reads started a re-along on Instagram. The book is From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata.

Since some of the girls said they were listening to it on Audible Escape, I caved and subscribed to start listening. Also, the book is on Kindle Unlimited and I got it from there too so I can highlight quotes.

Callie Dalton, so far, it’s not clicking with me as a female narrator but time will tell if I like her or not. Teddy Hamilton has a good voice for Lukov so far. I’m only a couple of chapters in.

Taking advantage and browsing Audible Escape, if found this book and devoured it in less than an hour before going to bed.

The Sixth Wife by Laura Lond it’s a stand-alone story about a human woman that married an Elf. It was a heartwarming romance that made me feel all fussy inside by the end.

This was one that I had on my Wish List on Audible for a while, so when I saw it on Audible Escape I jumped on it.

Ace of Hearts by Chantal Fernando. It’s the story of a woman that’s looking for her father and finds out he’s the president of a Motorcycle Club.

The story has grabbed me so far but I’m pacing myself because I’m kind of getting as many books as I can from this subscription. I don’t know when I’ll finish it but I can bet it will be before the end of April.

His Everything by Frankie Love is my current book. I’m listening and reading at the same time since the book it’s on Audible Escape and Kindle Unlimited.

Kind of insta-love but not really. More like insta-obsession or something but I’m really-freaking-enjoying Josh Price voice delivering this sexy tale to my ears.

Reading wise I finished Grace by Becca Jameson, the second book in the Corked and Tapped Series. I’m showing a lot of restraint because I could binge read the whole series in two days for the way it’s going.

This book surprised me with the ending. I can admit that I was not expecting that. I also think that when an author can pull that kind of magic trick from her author hat, she’s awesome.

In other news. I’m working really hard into getting to the point where I can have a newsletter (in case you’re interested in following me). At this moment, if you are interested in what I’m doing, you can come and check my Instagram account @SpicyBooksLady. I also have Twitter @SpicyBooksLady but I’m not as active there, for some strange reason.

Weekly Reading Update (03/30-04/05)

I’ve decided since I’m trying to publish one blog post a day during April, that Sunday’s post has to be an update of my week and how reading went.

Since the COVID-19 got to Paraguay and the Government put us into #stayhome on March 12, my reading has not been going well. Not because I have not been in the mood to read but because I have found out that staying at home brings more work than relaxation time to my day.

I have never cleaned the house so much in my entire life. Honestly, it looks like every day there’s some new mess that we, my mother and I, have to clean, and with five people living together, it’s not hard to imagine such a thing happening.

The first thing that helped me to get back into the groove of things was picking an Audiobook and listen to it.

I decided that a Lani Lynn Vale re-read-a-thon of sorts was necessary, so I started Boomtown on Scribd and I’m happy to re-live this story all over again. Chey’s outburst and stubborn personality make this book lots of fun.

This time around I’m taking notes while listening to Mason Lloyd and Stephanie Rose read this book to me. I want to make sure I got all the info I need to write a family tree of sorts. Most Lani Lynn Vale books are related somehow and that’s what I’m wanting to catch and get down onto paper.

Finally, almost on Friday, I started reading again. Like, putting my glasses on, opening my Kindle and read.

A few weeks ago I read the first book in the Moon’s Ranch Series by Em Petrova. I loved it and wanted more, so I signed on Booksprout to get the second book in the series.

Screwed and Satisfied is the story of Dane and I was crazy interested in his story at the end of the first book.

So far I can tell you I was right to be crazy interested in his story. It started with a bang. The bang of something smashing against a wall barely missing his head.

The other book I picked up to read is Sexy Dirty Cowboy by Elle Thorpe. I got the immense pleasure of getting an ARC so I’m reading this one because I want to know what’s going on.

Ride Dirty, Cowboy was incredible. Addie and Kai storyline will blow your minds. I do have to say there were characters I wanted to punch in the face or in other body parts but I reserved my opinions for the actual review.

The review is coming soon for all the books in this series because I’m a little behind on my posting schedule. Hence the “blog post every day in April” idea.

And the last book that I picked back up during this week is Master’s Mistress by Jamie Schulz.

This one is the first in The Angel Eyes series and I’m slowly, very slowly, reading it because:

  1. There’s no book 2 yet.
  2. The undertone of the whole series is complicated and I can not rush. If I do, I may end up on a reading slump at the end of the book and I don’t want that.
  3. Jamie Schulz world, storyline, writing overall is so good that I just need to take my time.
  4. The book is big. 606 pages big. (O.O)
