Synopsis (From Goodreads)

King Grim Vasteri is the strongest, most feared warrior in the Tornian Empire. He has been sent by his Emperor to find and retrieve compatible females for their dying civilization. Lisa is a widowed mother of two little girls who finds herself and her daughters suddenly in high demand. Will the most feared warrior in the Empire keep and protect them? Or will he allow another to claim them?

King Grim Vasteri is the strongest and most feared warrior in the Tornian Empire. He is the King of Luda, blood brother to the Emperor and his line will die with him. He will have no offspring for no female would join with him for once he was scarred he was considered ‘unfit’. The Tornian Empire has been dying ever since the great infection caused the birth of females to become a rarity. Since then they have been searching the known universes for compatible females. The Emperor’s discovery of a compatible female on a slave ship changed that. He’d ordered Grim to find his Empress’ home world so more ‘unprotected’ females could be obtained, knowing Grim would never be allowed to Join with one.

Lisa Miller is a widowed mother of two little girls, Carly and Miki. Her husband died just a year ago, after a long battle with cancer and she misses him immensely. Friends want her to start dating again but in her heart, she knows there isn’t a man on the planet she could love like her Mark. Who could love their girls like their own. Therefore, she’ll stay alone.

When Lisa is discovered ‘unprotected’ at her husband’s grave, she wakes on an alien ship heading for an alien world. Refusing to accept this she confronts the large males, demanding she be returned to her children. Seeing his chance to have a female, Grim agrees to accept and protect her offspring, if she agrees to Join with him and only him. Realizing this is the only way she can retrieve her children Lisa agrees and the Tornian Empire changes forever..

My thoughts on Grim

WARNING: This have spoilers. You’ve been warned.

Who said that Twitter wasn’t a good place to find earth shattering books?

I found M.K. Eidem’s twitter account thanks to two friends that subscribe to her. I went to see what attracted them and immediately thought “This is not for me“, because the stories where about Aliens. You have no idea how wrong I was…

What sold me was the Audiobook sample. I’m a sucker for a good male voice and Grim’s was… wow… So I got the book and started reading it. From 11 pm to 4 am until I finish it, with my eyes crying because they couldn’t go on much longer, but I needed to finish the book before going to bed.

Grim it’s a King, but he is seen as unfit because he has a scar along his face and neck. A scar he got fighting 8 males that were trying to kill him, but ended up killed by him instead. He is also the Emperor’s brother. Tell me, do you believe he is unfit after what he survived? *looks at the readers in the eye* I didn’t think so either, nor did Lisa.

Lisa, a mother of 2 that lost her husband to cancer a year ago, was abducted from the graveyard and when she woke up, the first thought was of her children. She managed to stand up to males that were very tall, strong and deadly. She got Grim to bring her back to Earth to retrieve her children/offspring with the condition that she would be his, and his alone. What mother would have said no?

From there forward its problem after problem for Grim that now has, not only one, but three females to protect. Why three? Well, Lisa’s children turned out to be girls. Girls being sour after in Tornian, added the fact that people saw him as unfit, obviously will make others challenge Grim for the females.

I can go on and on for hours about the story line of this book but I won’t. You have to read it. And I’m not saying this because I believe this book has made me feel like my life was altered. I’m saying it because the message in this book was so powerful that even today, as I’m writing this, 4 days after reading the book, I’m still stunt and in awe.

It’s a long book, there is no doubt about it but it is so worth it that you won’t even notice it. It took me 6 full hours to finish it because I just couldn’t stop reading. It was like the book has sucked me into a parallel universe and I didn’t want to leave until it was the right time. And the right time was when the book ended, leaving me blowned away.

The writing was beautiful, simple, yet full of meaning in each word, in each sentence. I have no words to express how I felt reading this book, cover to cover (on my kindle). The message was clear, loud and at the same time so amazingly done that my mind was boggling when I realized what I have just read.

I was in awe of what the female character did, how she acted and reacted to all the changes in her life, and in her daughters lives. How she stood up to people, help others, respected and showed appreciation for a job well done to even the most simples of servants in her household. How she put the males in their places was even better, showing them that they were wrong by telling the truth, even when it hurt.

I end up feeling a sence of pride so big by being a female. I can’t explain to you how many small, mundane, daily details where in this book that we pay no mind too. Things that are there, we are aware of, but chose to ignore anyway. This story open my eyes again to the life our world is living.

Love. The value of each other, no matter what small part we play on a project or persons life. The importance of family, of taking care of one another. The importance of actually take the time to listen and try to understand your partner. The fact that communication it’s the base of a healthy relationship with anyone… and I could keep on going, but I won’t. You have to read it to appreciate it, not by me listing 🙂

You can say I’m just over reacting but I LOVE this story so much that I even convince a friend of mine to start reading Grim’s book and she is loving it. This is going to my Favorite Books Of All Times list, there is no way in hell I would every let myself forget it.

Quotes

“Your females must be real bitches.” Lisa tells Veron softly. “You have no concept of how far a human female will go to protect our offspring, or what we will do to those who threaten them.”

“No one’s perfect Montfort, we all make mistakes, have bad days. It’s being willing to forgive the other that is treating someone well. Treating them as you’d want to be treated.”

“I heard the nurses talking once. They said it would be better for everyone if he just gave up. I asked daddy what they meant and he told me they were wrong, that the minute he had with mommy and us was worth every second of pain he suffered. That there is no honor in quitting just because it is hard. So you’re the Raptor Grim, because you didn’t quit when it got hard, you protected mommy, us, and Luda.”

“A Queen stands at your side Grim. She is your equal, your lover, your confident and your friend. She has a power all her own and duties to perform, duties that matter. She is all this things Grim… but that’s not what you want.” Sadness enters her steady gaze. “I will only ever be a female that has your offspring.”

“You said slow Grim.” She tells him, her voice heavy with need and desire. “Fuck slow.”

(There where so many more quotes that I just put these here.

One of my favorites from this series, and will be my favorite for all times.

FYI… I already finished the entire series so far (in 4 days) by the time this post it up.

mk-eidem-authorI have always loved to read and writing is just a natural extension of this for me. Growing up I loved to extend the stories of my favorite books and TV shows just to see where the characters went. I’ve been happily married for nearly twenty-five years to an awesome man and have two great kids. Now that the kids are out of the house, at least most of the time, I’ve found I have the time to write again.
