My thoughts on The Success Principles
I got this audio in 2014 and start to hear a lot of times but never made if far in. In this occasion I decided to get a pen, paper and listen to it during the times I was ironing clothes at night, two or three times a week. Doing it this way I finally finished the audiobook and got 5 pages of notes.
This is one of those books that you could find in the self-help section of the store but that works perfectly foe an aspiring writer or a newby because it helps with the little life advises to keep pressing forward when you are having doubts.
While listening to this audiobook, which is not the new version that came out for the 10th anniversary, I jot down stuff like… “I must change my response to the fact that I don’t like my university degree and just finish the damn thing without more excuses.” Or “I have to stop blaming my parents for my career choise and my life. If I don’t stop and change, nothing will change.”
I even when a little deeper remembering how I used to love the classics and now my once good, beautiful vocabulary it’s been transformed into everyday nonsense. “I used to idolize Anne Rise and her writing, that gorgeous way of describing in her books, her dialogues, all of it. I used to want to write like that. What happen? Where did all that go? I’m not reading what I wanted to read in the past, what I said I would read. I’m not writing like I wanted to be writing by now…”
After listening to this audiobook, I’m not only more respectful of self-help books but I want to read or listen to more of them. Because if this book got me to think about my life, got me to start trying to change my way of view about things I just didn’t try to change and just complained about, what could another one of this do?
I firmly believe you should read this book or listen to it in audio form. You can get videos with 5 minutes explanations of the main points on Youtube but I don’t recommend it because you miss so many things, so many stories, so much encouragement.
Honestly, I will probably get my hands on the new version. I’m not saying I will get to it right away but at some point I will revise this book again. Just because it’s not a writing book, doesn’t mean it won’t help in your path to become a great writer. I know it helped me.
