Welcome to the first blog post of the year and it’s not a book review, which is strange considering book reviews it’s all I have been posting for a long time.
This new year I spent it thinking about what I wanted to do with this blog. I love reading books and making reviews, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming to keep up with the work that it entails.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I know it’s already the 6th of January but it’s never too late to say those words, at least in my opinion. I hope you hade a great beginning of the new year, the new decade, the new century, etc.
My beginning of the year was interesting, to say the least. It didn’t felt as good as last years but also, I was in a weird limbo kind of situation and just now I’m standing on solid ground again. I guess that’s my way of saying that family drama left me unstable in some capacity.
You’re here because you probably want to know my reading goals for 2020. That’s the title of this blog post anyhow.
Goal 1: Read 53 books from my physical shelves.
I have so many books on my physical shelves that I feel bad because I don’t have any space left for new ones and most of them haven’t even read yet.
I bought around 10 physical books in 2019 because of two main reasons. One, I don’t read many paperbacks, having the convenience of reading on a Kindle or my phone has made me love the feel of a new book but I don’t usually read it. Two, I don’t have more space for new books.
That last one has gone to the point that I have put some of my book on big plastic containers/bins at the side of my closet because I can’t put them on my shelves anymore.
So, you see, a dent in my physical TBR would be awesome.
Goal 2: Read 100 ebooks/audiobooks.
My main idea is to read ebooks that I already got on my Kindle because let’s face it, my Kindle TBR is over 5,000 books long, and I keep adding them!
Yes, you read that right.
No, I didn’t make a mistake.
No, that’s not a typo.
My Kindle account is sitting at 5,545 books as of today (January 6th, 2020) and that’s not counting the ARC’s that are there as Docs. Yikes!
In reality, I know I will be reading books from my Kindle, my Kindle Unlimited subscription and audiobooks that I get sporadically. I’m still debating on getting Audible Escape to listen to romance novels but that would add to my TBR significantly, so…
Goal 3: Review all the books I read on Goodreads.
In 2019 I had a goal to read 150 books but since I didn’t keep track of them correctly, not even on Goodreads, my end of the year stats were a mess.
Just to give you an example. I know for a fact that I have re-read/re-listen to Queen Takes Knights by Joely Sue Burkhart around 10 times in 2019. I only have it once on Goodreads.
In 2020 I want to review, even if it’s just a small 2 paragraph little thing about the book, every single one and also put the re-reads on there.
Since I left that one to chance last year, I also made a reading bullet journal and I have a spreadsheet on my Google Drive to keep track digitally too.
Bonus Goal: Read 1 non-fiction book a month
Usually, I prefer romance books over anything else on the market but I have found out that it’s important to read other things too. Ok, I knew that already but didn’t pay much attention to it really. Now I want to change that with a simple goal like reading 1 non-fiction book a month.
I read some non-fiction books in 2019 but I didn’t get to 10 so this year I want to read/listen to more of those kinds of books. I have some on my physical shelves so that may help to reach this bonus goal.
