Winnie is a single mom with disabilities, who is trying to do what’s best for her children as best as she can. Her ex-husband does not pay alimony for his young son and her teenage daughter doesn’t take the separation well. In comes her neighbor, that happens to be the Chief of Police.
Steel or Big Papa as he was known in the Mc, found himself the rescuer of Winnie’s daughter when she was discovered shoplifting. He didn’t want to get involved but Winnie, his neighbor, caught his eye in a way no woman had. It didn’t hurt that her children were good kids.
I always have a great time reading one of Lani Lynn Vale books. The writing is simple to understand, the feelings and events are there for the reader to see and there is always an element of the story that makes it compelling.
Having read so many of her books by now I can see some themes or small details that she’s re-using from her previous stories. I have no problem with those as long as they are not blatantly obvious to me.
Lani Lynn Vale, in my opinion, can craft incredible stories with strong characters that speak to me as a reader and make me feel connected to them somehow. I’m a fan of her work and I would recommend her books from top to bottom.
