SYNOPSIS FROM GOODREADS
I need a wife. She needs money. It’s a gamble, but one month will solve both our problems.
Unimpressed with my billionaire playboy ways, my father has given me an ultimatum — settle down and get married before the investors’ meeting of Gaston Pharmaceuticals, or I’m out the door. Yeah… he’s a dick but he holds my future in his hands, so I need to play nice, for a while.
One problem is that the meeting is only a month from now. The second problem is that I’ve never dated a girl I liked well enough to spend an entire night with, let alone a month. So my best friend and I process my dilemma the best way we know how — by getting mind-blowingly drunk.
And just like that, I wake up in Vegas with an epic hangover… and a wife.
A beautiful wife. A fun wife. A caring and creative wife.
Now, all I have to do is convince her to stay married to me. I make her a promise. In four short weeks, we’ll quietly annul this farce and go our separate ways. I’ll get my life back. She’ll get hers plus some cash.
There’s just one little complication. I think I’m falling for her. As luck would have it, she hates my guts.
*** This is a Full-Length STANDALONE billionaire romance novel with an HEA and NO CLIFFHANGER. ***
MY REVIEW
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that left me utterly pleased and The Gamble was the book that brought that feeling back into my life.
My first book by Alice Ward and I just have to say bravo to the incredible job she did. I was not holding my hopes up so I was pleasantly surprise with how much I truly enjoyed this story.
Talen was the living proof that the company you keep can stir you into trouble. If he just didn’t listen to his best friend ideas to convince Dani to stay after that Vegas blackout night…
Dani was a strong woman. She not only dealt with her ex being a douche but her mom being sick. Still she didn’t stop, she kept pushing towards her dreams.
Their relationship was bumpy… yeah, that’s an understatement *roll my eyes at myself* There were highs and lows. Sometimes I wanted to strangle Brandon and other times Talen because… come on! *huff exasperated*
Who I really wanted to see fall and break his head, or some bones, was Talen’s father. What a despicable man! I was glad about what happen to him at the end but I think he should have suffer… greatly. I truly despise him to the core, even if for a minute there I thought he could redeem himself.
The story itself was a good way to write a romance flourishing between two people who got married on a drunken night, stayed together for the wrong reason and then realized how good they were for each other.
The writing was well done and I didn’t find any grammar mistakes. I also liked the fact that the terms were not slang, that made the reading even more fluent for me. I really like the characters and the story all together.
A little extra info here: I got the chance to read Alice Ward previous book, The Hunt but I declined because I thought I wouldn’t like it. Now I’m getting it on my Kindle as soon as possible *wink*

AUTHOR
Alice Ward is the bestselling author of dozens of hot and steamy contemporary romances. She’s an amazingly prolific writer, releasing a new book almost every single month. Her books are widely read, especially by women and any other lovers of the romance genre. My Stepbrother, My Lover, was her first smash hit.
Alice has been in love with love since she was a little girl. She had quite the collection of Barbie dolls growing up and spent much of her playtime crafting the perfect Barbie wedding day (and when she wasn’t doing that, she was working on attempting the perfect cartwheel).
When Alice outgrew Barbie dolls, she began to write her thoughts down in her diary. This was how she discovered that she had a knack for telling romantic stories. Her first fans were her close girlfriends, and her stories were a hit among them. They, along with her family, enthusiastically encouraged her love for writing.
Alice now lives in Miami with her wonderful, hunky husband. The beach is her all-time favorite place to relax with her laptop and write. When she needs a break from writing (and when no one’s looking) she loves thumbing through celebrity gossip magazines. It’s her guilty pleasure. She also might or might not have a thing for Gerard Butler (it’s the accent).
